Maintenance and Detoxification

Forget everything you know about steam saunas and let’s reprogram.

Traditional saunas require pouring water over heated rocks to create steam. The average heat of a room typically ranges from 185º to 190º F, making it a hot and humid experience. Infrared saunas are dry saunas with the heaters operating between 110º – 150º F, offering you a more comfortable temperature to sweat in while still receiving the great benefits of heat.

Both traditional steam saunas and infrared saunas produce perspiration. However, traditional saunas must be heated 30 to 40 minutes prior to using in order to get the rocks hot, so you start to sweat upon entering. On the other hand, infrared sauna penetrates your skin and heats your body directly while not losing heat in the surrounding air. This means you can enter an infrared sauna as you turn it on, though most people prefer to let it heat until it reaches 110º F. Traditional saunas can be turned off once the rocks are hot enough, but because the infrared rays are produced by the heaters, the infrared sauna has to be on for the duration of the session.

Choose from anti-aging, detoxification, pain relief, weight loss, relaxation, heart health and skin health options or St. Pierre Massage and Spa can customize a program to your own personal goals.

What the Experts Say
Dr. Oz says his in-laws introduced him to the infrared sauna. "It makes the same rays that come from the sun and filters out the UV radiation, so it only gives you the infrared radiation," he says. "That radiation that's infrared goes a little bit into your skin so, without heating you up and the external environment too much, it heats the body up."

After a few minutes in the sauna, Oprah says she's starting to feel the heat. Dr. Oz says the high temperature helps lower blood pressure and increase blood circulation. "It gets your heart to beat faster, and it burns calories," Dr. Oz says. "It raises your metabolism a little bit, and also when you sweat, you sweat out toxins through the skin."

Harvest Time
Napa’s most wonderful time of the year might be considered the most stressful time of the year for winemakers. Harvest is hard work. People are exhausted, wet, cold, often hungover, not well nourished and anxious. Plenty of physical labor and mental strife goes into that bottle of wine you had with dinner last night. What’s a winemaker and wine industry worker to do? Please – take some time for yourself. Now is not the time to askew wellness. Drink plenty of water. Eat healthy or at least healthy snacks. Meditate. Get plenty of rest. Stretch.

Get a massage; no appointment necessary; walk-ins are welcome. A massage helps to soothe your aching muscles, alleviate low back pain and improve range of motion. Massage invites relaxation. You will feel more energized and will be able to sleep better too. While a massage can be pampering, we like to think of massage as maintenance…maintenance for a healthier you.

Massage Benefits Detoxification
Massage therapy helps stimulate the lymphatic and circulatory systems for more efficient detoxification. Massage therapy can help stimulate your circulation and tone organs in order to promote detoxification.

Sedentary lifestyles also slow circulatory systems. When your circulation is operating at its optimal level, oxygenated blood nourishes your internal organs more effectively allowing for a more efficient detoxification process.

Your heart is vital to cardiovascular circulatory system function, helping to pump oxygenated blood around your body to nourish cells and organs and eliminate waste. The lymphatic system is reliant on muscle contraction, gravity, breathing and manual manipulation--such as lymphatic drainage, hydrotherapy and massage for circulatory stimulation. Compressing body tissues help squeeze blood and lymph through vessels to facilitate chemical detoxification. The methodical and rhythmic long, sweeping strokes characteristic of Swedish massage activates superficial veins pushing fluids toward the heart to prevent stagnation, boost circulation and enhance detoxification.

St. Pierre Sauna Suites now open: Full Spectrum Infrared Sauna Suites for Wellness

St. Pierre Massage and Spa is excited to offer the Full Spectrum infrared sauna experience.

How does infrared sauna differ from traditional sauna?
A traditional sauna heats the air but
infrared light comes from the sun's invisible spectrum of light and can penetrate human tissue. Infrared heats the body directly rather than just the air. Treatment will increase your body's core temperature resulting in a much deeper, more detoxifying sweat from the cellular level of your skin where toxins are stored. Think of infrared like sunbathing but infrared won’t burn your skin.

What are the health benefits?
·         Lose weight – A 30-minute session can burn from 200 to 600 calories
·         Improve circulation and lower blood pressure
·         Pain relief of back, neck and arthritis pain
·         Relax and relieve stress
·         Detoxification - Sweat your way to feeling good 7 to 10 times faster than a conventional sauna
·         Skin purification - A treatment in an infrared sauna can improve your skin's appearance. Open wounds heal quicker with less scarring and help with acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns and any skin lesion or cut.
·         Restore youthful appearance by reducing wrinkles, making your skin look radiant, firms and improves skin tone and elasticity.

What to expect during a treatment?
You can expect privacy, calm and comfort during your individualized infrared spa experience. Relax in your 45 square foot sauna suite. Included with every sauna treatment is Acoustic Resonance Therapy (A.R.T). Feel the music move through your body as you reach a
deep state of relaxation. Each sauna suite also has DVD TV screen and audio music. Refresh with Veriditas Hydrosol
, nosh on a light snack and hydrate with electrolytes.
You may also enjoy time in our peaceful quiet room before or after each sauna treatment and take advantage of the amenities by using our private dressing area including your own space for your clothes, and bench for relaxing,

Massage Napa: Which Massage Do You Need?

Every woman and man deserves a massage in Napa, with not only relaxing results but also the physical benefits. If you’ve never had a massage before, it can be confusing on what type to ask for. It all depends on what your body needs because each type of massage has specific benefits.

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu massage originates in Japan and involves pressing, tapping, pressing, kneading, and stretching methods that are performed without oils. The benefits can affect the musculoskeletal system. This type of massage helps reduce muscle stiffness, aids digestion, stimulates the skin, and aids the nervous system.

Hot Stone Massage

Massage in Napa Valley is as varied as much as it is relaxing. Take hot stone massage. When the body is heated, your muscles can fully let go and actually unwind, knots included. The direct heat from the stones gives the therapist access to the deeper muscle layers. The combination of a full body massage and the stones allows the blood vessels to expand, encouraging blood flow to the body. Get ready to relieve chronic pain and reduce stress.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage but the therapist uses deeper pressure to release muscle tension. This type of massage is perfect for those with long periods of muscle pain, nagging injuries, and those needing pain management. The focus of this massage is on the deep layers of tissues and fascia — that protective layer surrounding bones, muscles, and joints.

Maternity Massage

Massage can be really beneficial for pregnant women. The most ideal type of massage for pregnancy is Swedish massage. Maternity massage reduces muscle tension and improves blood circulation, all through gentle pressure applied to the muscle groups. If you’re pregnant, this massage will help the overall skeletal and circulatory changes that come with hormonal shifts.

At St. Pierre Massage and Spa we offer many different massage types and treatments at our day spa in Napa Valley. If you would like to know more information about the benefits of massage; we would be glad to give you additional information.
